It was almost one in the morning by the time they got home. His back had gone from feeling like it was on fire to feeling pleasantly numb. Peeling off their clothing, they collapsed into bed. Johnny pulled her back into a warm embrace, wrapping his arms around her from behind much like the tattoo they both now inked on their backs.

It would occur to his newfound love at some point very soon that they were inextricably linked as the matching tattoos they wore. He thought maybe she knew it already, but was having a hard time believing in the concept of soul mates or whatever in the fuck they were.

His next memory was someone pounding on the door. Crawling out of bed, he walked out to answer it in his briefs. Johnny didn’t particularly care who saw his body and he had every intention of throwing them back out the fuckin’ door anyway. After opening the door he scratched his balls, turned and walked back into the living room. Enzo, Charlie and Gino crowded into the room.

Of course it would be Gino who opened his fat mouth. “I ain’t never seen anything quite like what you got on your back.”

“Stow it, sunshine. I’m in a mood to kick some ass this morning so don’t get me riled up.”

“Well, I like it. All the brothers get back tats. It’s no big deal.”

Jerking his chin at Charlie he tossed him a lopsided grin. Leave it to the one biker in the room to have an eye for the ink.

Enzo spoke cautiously. “We been workin’ on Gino’s plan…”

“I gotta new plan. I’m going to meet with their leader and just get her back. If we do some bait and switch shit, there’s no guarantee they’ll buy it and I don’t want her looking over her shoulder the rest of her goddamn life.”

“You can’t just walk in there.”

“I’m a mafia don’s son. Of course I can walk in there. Look, I don’t know how to say this politely, so I’ll just come right out with it. I’d be nothing more than a killer talkin’ to killers with a business that caters to his needs. I’ve got more fuckin’ money than God. I’d rather just make a deal, take the broad and be on my merry way. We can be all cloak and dagger about this shit but it’s gonna get someone unnecessarily shot. Besides, if they won’t refuse to deal, I got no problem getting’ together a posse and shootin’ the place right up.”

Charlie sat down in a side chair. “Wow, that was not what I was expecting to hear.”

Enzo sighed. “I does make a certain kind of Johnny sense.” There was a long dramatic pause before he spoke again. “I think you should let your old man ride shotgun on this one.”

“Fuck that, he’s way more trouble than he’s worth.”

“With Don Carlo in the room, they’ll be on their best behavior.”

“No.”

“Look, if you want to stack the deck in your favor, you’ll let him in.
